How it works
Sodium increases extracellular fluid osmolarity, drawing water into the interstitial space. Loose periorbital tissue holds this fluid readily, producing morning puffiness. Alcohol compounds it through vasodilation, inflammation and rebound fluid shifts. Sleeping flat allows gravitational pooling in the face.
How it's used
Keep sodium moderate and consistent rather than swinging between extremes. Drink adequate water — dehydration causes retention rather than preventing it. Sleep with your head slightly elevated. Expect 24–72 hours for a high-sodium meal or a heavy drinking night to fully clear.

Risks and side effects

- Diuretic misuse for appearance is dangerous
How good is the evidence?
Well-established physiology of sodium and fluid balance; direct aesthetic studies are limited but the mechanism is not in dispute.
