These terms govern your use of looksthread.com ("the site"). By creating an account or using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the site.
02Nothing here is medical advice
This is the most important clause in this document, so it is near the top rather than buried.
looksthread is a community and a reference library. It is not a clinic, and nothing on it — including the Research library, any thread, any reply, and anything written by staff — is medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. No doctor-patient or other professional relationship is created by using this site.
The library is written to help you have a better-informed conversation with a qualified professional, not to replace one. Medicines and procedures carry real risks that depend on your individual history, and many substances discussed here are prescription-only or not approved for human use at all.
Always consult a suitably qualified clinician before starting, stopping or changing any treatment. Never disregard professional advice or delay seeking it because of something you read here. If you think you are having a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services.
03Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use looksthread, because the site discusses prescription medicines and surgery. By creating an account you confirm that you meet that requirement and that the information you provide is accurate.
04Your account
- You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for everything done through your account.
- One person, one account. Do not impersonate anyone, and do not use a username reserved for the site team.
- Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
05Acceptable use
The community principles are part of these terms. In short, content that does any of the following will be removed, and repeating it will cost you your account:
- Insulting or degrading someone's appearance. Ratings and honest critique are permitted; abuse dressed up as feedback is not.
- Blackpill fatalism — arguing that appearance is destiny or that self-improvement is pointless.
- Misogyny, racism, or generalisations about any group's worth.
- Telling someone their situation is hopeless, in any wording.
- Harassment, mocking a member's appearance, or pile-ons.
- Sourcing or offering to supply prescription drugs to other members, or presenting dosing instructions as medical direction.
- Anything unlawful, including posting content you do not have the right to post, or images of another person without their consent.
- Spam, scraping, automated bulk access, or attempts to circumvent moderation or security.
06Content you post
You keep ownership of everything you post. By posting it you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and distribute it as part of operating the site. That licence ends for future display when you delete the content, though copies may persist in backups or in caches we do not control.
You are responsible for what you post. Do not upload anything you do not have the right to share — including photographs of other people, copyrighted material, or clinical records belonging to someone else.
07Moderation
We may remove content, lock or pin threads, add a visible staff note to a thread, or suspend or delete accounts, at our discretion and without prior notice, where we believe these terms or the community principles have been broken.
We are not obliged to monitor everything posted, and content appearing on the site does not mean we endorse or have verified it.
08Third-party links and products
The site links to external sources such as guideline bodies and research databases, and discusses products and procedures offered by third parties. We do not control those and are not responsible for them. Cost figures in the library are rough estimates for orientation, not quotes, and vary enormously by country and practitioner.
09Availability
The site is provided as-is and as-available. We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any information on it is complete or current. We may change or discontinue features at any time.
10Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site, from any decision you make based on content found here, or from any action taken by another member.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
11Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you we will say so on the site. Continuing to use looksthread after a change means you accept the updated terms.
