About looksthread

A place to get better looking
without getting worse.

looksthread exists because the useful information about improving your appearance is scattered between clinical papers nobody reads and communities that will quietly convince you that you're doomed. We wanted the first without any of the second.

The principles

Six rules that decide what stays up.

/ 01

Rate the look, not the person

Ratings and blunt critique are fine — most people are here precisely to get them. Contempt is not. Say what you'd change and why, and never tell someone that what they were born with is a life sentence.

/ 02

No blackpill, no incel content

Fatalism is banned outright. Content arguing that appearance determines someone's worth, or that self-improvement is pointless, is removed on sight. So is misogyny, racism and harassment of any kind.

/ 03

Evidence over confidence

Strong claims need sources. The Research library exists so advice can be checked rather than repeated. Saying "I don't know" is respected here.

/ 04

Honest timelines

Real change takes months and years. Posts that promise otherwise, or that hide the recovery, the cost or the maintenance, get corrected.

/ 05

Nothing here is medical advice

This is a community, not a clinic. Anything pharmaceutical or surgical belongs in front of a qualified professional before it goes anywhere near you.

/ 06

Be someone worth taking advice from

Blunt is fine. Cruel is not. If you can't tell someone the truth without belittling them, you're not being honest, you're just being unkind.

What gets removed, every time

This list isn't a starting point for negotiation. Posting any of it will get the thread removed, and repeating it will get the account removed.

  • Insulting someone's appearance instead of critiquing it — ratings are fine, contempt isn't
  • Blackpill fatalism — the claim that appearance is destiny and effort is pointless
  • Misogyny, racism, and generalisations about any group's worth
  • Telling someone their situation is hopeless, in any wording
  • Harassment, mockery of a member's appearance, or pile-ons
  • Sourcing prescription drugs for other members, or dosing advice presented as medical direction

How threads are organised

Every thread carries up to three tags.

Tags exist so you can filter by what a thread actually is. If you're researching finasteride, you shouldn't have to wade through outfit advice to find it.

If that sounds like the place you were looking for.
