Eyebrow & Facial Hair Grooming
Also known as brow shaping, beard grooming
The highest impact-to-effort ratio on this entire list. Free, immediate, and reversible.
Free at home; $15–40 for a barber or brow appointment.
How it works
Brows frame the eyes and strongly influence perceived expression and symmetry. Cleaning up the unibrow region and stray hairs below the natural brow line opens the eye area. Facial hair alters perceived jaw width and can camouflage a weak chin or an uneven jawline; a defined beard neckline in particular sharpens the appearance of the jaw.
How it's used
Brows: remove only obvious strays and the unibrow. Never thin the top line or over-tweeze — brows regrow slowly and sometimes not at all. Beard: set the neckline roughly two fingers above the Adam apple, not at the jawline, and keep the cheek line natural. If unsure, pay a barber once and then maintain what they did.
Trade-offs

- Ingrown hairs and folliculitis
- Skin irritation from waxing or threading
- Infection from unsterile tools
How good is the evidence?
Limited formal research, but perceptual studies consistently show brow shape and grooming meaningfully affect facial attractiveness ratings.
